Do they work? If so which ones are the best? I don't want to turn out orange and streaky!
I use tan towels -- they come in different sizes -- ones that are just enough for your arms or your legs.

For me they're better than the lotions -- I could never get it on evenly -- so I'd end up with dark and light patches.

For me I have to go with two application of the towels -- then I just have a healthy glow.

I haven't tried the ones you guys mentioned, but I like L'Oreal Sublime - it's cheap at the local Meijer stores and gives a great believable color and doesn't smell like burnt sugar and moisturizes well!!

I used Clarins Liquid Bronze Self Tanning Lotion last summer and liked it alot. I bought it in a department store from a male cosmetician who claimed to have used it and looked terrific. He explained that it could be diluted with moisturizer to control the degree of tanning, if desired, and so could even be used year round. It is a 4oz bottle and I still have about 2/3's left for the upcoming summer season. I think the color looked natural and would definitely buy it again.

Hi mireckca-

About the Clarins Liquid, does it have a smell to it at all? Good or bad? And how was it as far as streakiness? And how long did you have to apply it to notice a color?

I was out today and almost bought it. I have heard great things about their tanning products.

I tend to sweat alot, on my nose!! Drives me crazy. But I am always afraid if I use a self tanner on my face or anywhere else, and I sweat, will the color be noticeable. Like will I sweat a yellowish brown. Lol - Does that make any sense?

The Clarins has a slight aroma to it that is nice - not obnoxious or anything. It doesn't smell like those Coppertone products in the old days (like QT I think it was called). Everyone knew you were using a self-tanner because you reeked from the odor.

I mixed it with moisturizer and blended it well and had no streaking. I just wanted to get a glow on my face, which did result from just a single application. I used it every couple of days especially if I was going out, so I was more of an intermittent user.

I didn't apply successive layers in a single day, for example, because I did not want my face to get alot darker than my arms and legs, which were not tanned. So I do not know how well that type of usage would turn out. But from what I did see, I think that it would be fine. The fellow that sold it to me probably applied a couple of layers to get a darker shade and he looked good.

Ok, thanks I just might have to try it!
Thats a good idea mixing it with your moisturizer.

And yes, I do remember the Coppertone and QT. That stuff was awful!!

Yeah - I know that is why mine has lasted so long. If you have a Sephora near you, why don't you go and try it out. Of course, you'll have to go back to make the purchase after you see the results. I've done that with several things and have avoided some big mistakes!

I do have a Sephora. I never even thought of that. I do go there for my foundation etc because of their samples. Thats a great idea! I love Sephora. Not only because of their samples, but their return policy if top notch.

Also, I ordered my stuff for the Vit C recipe. Can't wait for it to arrive! I didn't have any luck at my health food store.
But thats ok, I found some great sites to order from. I will let you know how it goes when I try to become the mad scientist. Hopefully I won't blow the tiles off the roof!

Hey! another DIY C convert! We'll be putting the greedy corporate cosmetics debbils outta bidness!

Mireckca: Yes, I heard that Clarins is the absolute best in self-tanners as far as beautiful color - and isn't that what we buy it for?????! I did used to use it when I lived in FL and it was perfect, as I remember. Nice fragrance and lovely consistency. It didn't streak. L'Oreal Sublime is a close second i'd say tho - and cheaper.

Now that I am back in the dreary Midwest, I just use a bronzing powder over my usual foundation du jour. Not all over, of course, just cheeks, forehead, chin, nose, and collarbones. I try to stay fishbelly white all year round!

No, I have very pale skin, so if I apply make-up that's enough. I use the towels mainly for my legs and arms. The first application you just get a glow, for a deeper look you need another pass over. I suppose I could use the towels on my face -- but I have been wary of breakouts. May give it a try -- could do without makeup then.

Yes, I am afraid of the breakouts too, that is why I was asking if you had ever tried it. It probably isn't a good idea if you are acne prone, as I am. It has been awhile since I had a break out and I am keeping my fingers crossed that they never return!!
