If you use a toner (like Witch Hazel, which I'm using right now). Should you still wash your face with a cleanser (like Clean and Clear oil free wash which I'm also using)?

Hi JarHead,
Oh absolutely you should wash first to get rid of all the junk before you close the pores with the witch hazel.. That sounds like a great basic routine! Don't forget the sunscreen down there in sunny FLA!

Definitely! Toner or astringent should be used after cleansing. It helps close the pores, as well as remove any residue that may have been left behind by the cleanser.

Steph- what kind of toner do you use?
Gymrat - I use proactiv, which comes with a toner. I don't think it ever needs to be expensive. Over-the-counter stuff like Sea Breeze or Witch Hazel works just the same!

Some over the counter stuff I personally have to be careful with. I just finished taking Accutane. So, I have to be careful with what the ingredients are. I am one of those you see in the drug store reading the labels! lol. But yes I agree, things don't have to be expensive.

I am slowly introducing my face to products again, which is nice. When taking Accutane, I rarely used face wash. Just rinsed with water. I could go weeks without having to wash my hair, just crazy stuff like that!
I have sensitive skin but like the feel of using a toner. I use Thayers Lavender Witch Hazel -- its alcohol free with aloe vera& Vit E.

Thanks Mari- this sounds nice, I will check it out! I like the alcohol free, and you can't go wrong with aloe and Vit E. And if it smells like lavender I will really like it!

Very important to cleanse, tone, moisturize and use sunscreen.
The toner closes pores, brings your skin to the proper PH and allows any anti aging products then applied to penetrate better.
Hope this is helpful
I am using ACV toner and I am liking it a lot. cheap and organic !!

Pumi organic stuff is good but however it is not tested as well as other products so hence why you should always be careful before using it!

I forgot to mention I make the toner myself!

Hi Peri,

Just wondering have you ever suffered any irritation from the ACV toner? What concentration are you using when mixing the toner and also can I know your skin type? Also, for how long do you keep it before discarding and where do you store it?

sorry for asking so many questions!

Thanks.

Ask away. The more the merrier.

Lets's see........No irritation that I know of. I mix about 50-50 AVC and filtered water.
I'd say my skin type is normal/slightly oily
I make enough to last just over a week or so. I've not discarded any yet.
I just keep it on the bathroom counter.
This stuff works great removing the sunscreen around my eyes that my cleanser has trouble removing.

Thanks for replying, Peri. I have been using 50% distilled water and 50% vinegar as well. It was working fine for me at first but I guess I have kept it for too long-- I believe 3weeks now!

I made quite a big batch and I still have plenty left! Lately been noticing some pimples on my forehead and cheeks. Do you think the acv toner has gone off??

I thought vinegar does not go off so I kept using it!!

I dont think the ACV will go bad considering vinegar is often used to preserve things such as pickling foods and infusing herbs. Dont hold me to that though.

It might be that your skin is getting over dried. Are you using a good moisturizer after you tone?
