I have brown eyes and I wear it all. Depending on my mood or if I work that day I will wear browns, peaches, purples, pinks, greens you name it. I absolutely love experimenting with my makeup in creative ways. I work at a hospital so I downplay my makeup at work.
Personally my go-to shadows that make my eyes pop are pinks. Doesn't need to be a bright or overpowering shade by any means, but the contrast is very flattering. I typically wear brown eyeliner, I find black to be a bit drastic for me. It all depends on the look I'm trying to achieve.
Try a few different pink shades, that is my advice.
Supposedly purple or "lavender" brings out the brown. I am boring. I stick to earth tones on the blue moon that I do wear eyeshadow. Every once in a while when I'm feeling saucy I'll put on my purple eye-liner though.
A basic idea... Try using a nude type shade that is peach or beige as a base color and/or highlighter color. Use a pinkish purple or coral shade as an all over lid color (except under the brow), then for the crease use a mid toned brown or beige. Line with a coppery brown. You can also use a pink eyelining/highlighter pencil to line just at the inner corners of the eye for a more refreshed/wide eyed look. Use a dark brown or brown/black mascara to finish it off.
Have fun altering things and experimenting...I hope this helps., copper, pinks, pale purples (pinky purples) and browns..they help make your eyes *pop*.
I like Golds, Silvers and Bronzy colors too on brown eyes. Or a brownish eyeshadow with a red undertone, like Mac Swiss Chocolate. And Copper. They always seem to use those colors on JLo, her makeup looks so beautiful, sometimes I wish I had brown eyes.
I have to agree with you about this; I have tried all colors; sometimes a very deep plum works, but the best shade for my dark brown eyes is brown---it could light brown, medium brown, deep brown, and I also highlight with cream or latte shades and once in a great while a golden shade.
I love bronze and green shadows on brown eyes. There are so many gorgeous deep green-brown shadows around at the moment, like Rouge Bunny Rouge Abyssinian Catbird, which is a mix of bronze, gold, and green:
Oh Dem! RBR is a fun brand isnt it! I love the colors and the descriptions! too bad the lip balm is loaded with nasty chemicals and chemical sunscreen ingred. Otherwise the honey-mint flavor sounds so good.
