I dont have any pictures right now but ill try and explain.
in the upper right section of my nose i have a tiny red spot which i believe to be a burst blood vessel.
ive had it for years.
in the last 2 years or so, underneath that red dot the skin has been thickening. it is very puffy and spongy. and now, it has gotten so bad that i get strange looks, and people think my nose is broken, but it isnt. its just the skin is so thick and spongy around the lower portion of my nose.
i mean really spongy, like if i squeeze my nose then you can watch the skin takes a couple of seconds to puff back to where it was. every few weeks it seems to be getting worse.

i dont know if it makes any difference, but my nose is very oily, i can wash my face and an hour later you can notice it is oily again.

when i try and sleep i feel a lot of pressure deep inside my nose. and if i exert myself then i often feel pulsing inside my nose, which each pulse it feels the pressure is increasing.

sometimes the colour of it looks ok, but the skin texture looks buggered. after i wash it it can look shiny and red. and the redness can take quite a while to subside.

slowly i feel it is making my face look deformed and im really bothered by it.
its a real bother because i have to get on crowded trains to get to and from work and i feel everyone is wondering, what the hell is wrong with my face. so am i. lol

I have had a couple of broken capillaries on my face with that same red spot, etc. Each time I've just gone to the dermatologist to have it removed; however, your insurance may consider it cosmetic and not pay for the removal. The dermatologist will either laser it or cauterize it. I've had both done. Laser is much better, in my opinion.

In both cases with me, they were benign and I don't even think they are tested. It's a common thing.

Maybe just go to a dermatologist to get the proper diagnosis.

You should see a dermatologist for an "expert" opinion, if you are in a situation that that is available to you. It sounds like it needs more than a quick assessment from an on-line opinion. AND you'll feel better to have a clear nose and handsome face again when it's taken care of. Don't delay :) Coco

I would echo the other advice that you need to see a doctor ASAP. From your terminology I think you may be British and if so I understand that you may have trouble seeing a dermatologist but you should see a doctor because it sounds as though something other than just a skin problem is going on and the longer you leave it the worse it could be.

Hey Gary,

I just came across your post, while googling for help on my own skin condition. You sound like you might've had the beginnings of rhinophyma? Check it out online if you haven't. It's kinda depressing that there hasn't been much research done on this topic and there doesn't seem to be a treatment / cure.

Have you found out what it is and managed to resolve it? I have something similar, ie super thick nose skin. I've read that it's basically due to a lot of sebaceous glands (not surprising) and don't really know how to even try to fix it.

Try Azelaic Acid if you haven't. I think it might help a little.. Good luck and do update me on how it's going!

Cheers.

This sounds scary - I would make an appt with a doctor to get his/her opinion and, in the meantime, at least get my blood pressure checked right away. It may be sinus related but then again it may not be.

Yes...sounds very distressing to me, too. My advise is the same...see a doctor right away about it. It may be something as simple as overactive oil glands saturating your skin, but may be something more serious....see your doctor for professional diagnosis.
