I've seen their counter at the local mall but never purchased anything. ususally, they have sales rep. that have on what I would consider as "clown makeup" and they all have very overly doned hair. I suppose I've always associated this with the quality of MAC cosmetics. However, i've recently learned that this is not the case as many of you swear by the name brand.

so tell me, what's so great about MAC?

It's all marketing. they are not the most expensive, nor the best. And most ordinary women, such as myself, can not pull off 99% of their color palettes. Simple colors and good make up techniques is much more important than the products. spend 200 dollars on some professional makeup classes is so much more useful

I like MAC, because their stuff lasts a long time. They have something for everyone. You don't have to put on as much makeup as the people who are selling the makeup. Their products are easily applied meaning you don't have to work to get a good color. They have many colors.

I don't like to wear alot of makeup and MAC is great for me. Because too much face makeup makes me break out, but I've always wanted something to even out my skin tone. They have a nice lightweight makeup powder that is easy to put and easy to take off. It doesn't even feel like I have anything on my face.

I love MAC. And, no I don't work for MAC or anything this is my personal opinion.

I have to agree, though, the people who work at MAC do have outrageous hair-dos and makeup, but I think it comes with the job. Their are even some interesting people working their. One time I was talking to my mom after we both got our makeup done and I was talking about the person who did my makeup saying they were weird when the person who did her makeup came up. She asked, "Oh do you not like your makeup, sweetie?" and I said no. I was kind of embarrassed about what I was saying so my mom explained what we were talking about and she said "We weren't really sure if he was a boy or a girl." and the makeup artist said "Yeah, we aren't either. He doesn't care if you call him a girl or a boy, though." HAHAHAHA

i think the stores are moving towards an urban edgey marketing strategy- thats why the clown make up and then amy winehouse hair- but its actually relaly good- so good infact that my imom insists on it every year for her b-day.

mac eyeshadows are good because the colour pigment is really strong (or so i've been told) and the brushes are supposed to be some of the best but pricey too

They are great because the colors are highly pigmented and the color selection is out of this world. I am speaking for the eyeshadows and blushes actually, I don't own any other products from MAC. Wait, I have a few brushes, and they are nice too. High quality.
MAC is wonderful because they will return used makeup. If you bring something home but change your mind about once applied, they will refund you. No questions. I have always found the customer service to be exceptional.

Which is the best MAC foundation for oily skin? Can anybody suggest one? I find their studio fix powder does not give enough coverage esp if you have acne spots and uneven skin tone.

I like the huge range of up to date make-up that mac produce & their website is huge! HOWEVER! i personally think it is a lot to do with the fact that so many celebrities use the range so everyone thinks it is good to have,I have found cheaper brands that do the job better for me at less cost!!

Well put. One of my best friends is a MAC makeup artist. He loves his MAC products. However, Sometimes I go to visit him at his counter and I feel like I'm at a carnival.

I finally let him do my makeup New Year's Eve 2008. I definitely looked like his BDQFF (Best Drag Queen Friend Forever). But I'M A GIRL! Not a good look. It may have looked good in pictures... but up close I was a disaster! Too much color and shine! I think I'll stick to the more natural mineral make-up!

I would try using a brush, not a sponge because a sponge will waste more foundation sinces sponges absorb more, you definitly would be better off using a brush (to get a more even and flawless application) or if your in a rush, clean fingers. It will save you money from having to buy foundation sooner! I used to work at prescritives and i used to use sponges and i realized how much longer my foundation started lasting when i started using brushes!

Hi Taradene. Could you recommend a good brush for applying foundation? I have never used one but would like to try it. Thanks!

The one i use is the foundation brush from prescriptives, i like it because it has a good amount of brush density and its not too soft so it doesn't just smear the foundation around, it really gives a smooth application. Ive tried MAC's brush and its a little too soft. One thing about brushes, its a good investment, it may cost around $30 at time of purchase, but will last a really long time.

MAC salespeople like to have fun with color and be creative. I dont think they are suggesting their customers do that! It grabs your attention though! I love their stuff since they have a huge color range in every category. Their studio fix and studio tech is awesome. I have to try every foundation out there. I love their So jade eyeliner. I got it for Paddy's day but now I wear it all the time .
