Hi, im new here and thought i'd post to see if anyone here has any advice..

For as far as I can remember I have had black pitted areas all over my nose, looking like a stawberry.. (male 35)

I thought these were blackheads, but have used the pore strips, plus blackhead treatment, and its still the same.

I also have black/dark small individual hairs growing 'on' my nose proturding, which is a bit embarrasing!

I must have large pores, but how can i stop the hair, and the little black pitted dots (which close up dont look like blackheads)? - my nose feels smooth but just looks spotted!

Please help as ive also been given Panogel (i think for acne) by my GP and that was no help either!

I have now moved onto Paula's Choice 1% beta hydroxy, as i've heard this is a wonder solution, but anyone got any other tips or health advice?

If you are sure that its blackheads, you can use a machine that will suck them like this
I'm using this to get rid of the whiteheads and blackheads on my nose. It works better after using a scrub (this is not a chemical peel)
For the hair on the nose you can just use a tweezer to remove them. Don't cut them cause they might grow longer and harder.

Hi menders,

Welcome to SCT!

Try the Oil Cleansing Method (OCM) for the blackheads. You can get more information here: The Oil Cleansing Method - A simple, cleansing facial massage for clear skin! You could also use a clarisonic to help with the blackheads. A lot of us here have had great results with the OCM.

For the hair, you could either pluck (if they are thick and long) or you could have IPL hair removal which would be a more permanent solution.

Thanks

I've not really seen this on other people but could post a pic of exactly how my nose looks (from another pic) (wont let me post a pic?!!)

Mine are probably a little darker and slightly redder nose.. I get the feeling that the pores/blackheads are the reason for the hairs, and if my nose was healed, that these may disappear too?

Im sure the 2% BHA Paula's choice would be good.. so may try that and stick with that? It says its magical on blackheads and redness..

I had lots of blaskheads on my nose and sheeks too.now I hardly have some! I started to use OCM about a month ago and it works great!it made all my pores so small that you can't even see them now and the amount of blackheads reduced significantly. and when you put MV SS so you have perfect skin!

someone posted a regime for blackheads.. sorry forgot who it was but thx

BAKING SODA BLACKHEAD REMOVER
» Why It Works: This gentle, quick facial uses
baking soda's acid-neutralizing alkalinity and milk's lactic acid to clear out pores and lightly exfoliate.
» You'll Need:
- 1 tbsp baking soda
- 1/4 cup milk
*Mix all the ingredients together. Rub into blackhead-prone areas using a
soft makeup sponge. Rinse and repeat if needed.

One time.. in band camp... lol.. just kidding-

For real, I plucked a small hair on my nose and the next morning a pimple arose... so I never pluck. I am prone to clogged pores and wonder if that has anything to do with it. I know just keep it trimmed using a brow trimmer -when it decides to sprout. On occasion I just pluck it if its horid. It's quite embarassing to have it. I thought witches only had hair growing on their noses? *lol*

... *embrassed* ..can't believe I admitted that to the whole world!

Don't be embarassed! I have 2 witch hairs that started growing my left cheek out from my mouth when I was about 35. They had *bit* of color back then, but now they are long and blonde.
Image
I tweeze them too. They really show if I don't tweeze them when I put on makeup. Ugh.... lol You aren't alone!

Agreed, first exfoliate (a microfiber cloth from NCN pro skincare works better than anything) and use the baking soda recipe for a few nights in a row. If your nose becomes sore give it a days rest and continue the next day. I had the same problem and got rid of almost all of them in just 3 days!

Then make sure you're not rubbing your face with your hands and wash with a PH balanced cleanser. Hope that helps!

Thanks for the replies...

@Loveapples : Sorry but can you tell me what OCM is? and MV SS? Not great with skin care stuff and solutions as im new to all this

Is the baking soda solution a real winner then? better than Paula's choice?

I dont think its 'as much' the blackheads but the pores which could do with shrinking on my nose only..

Does the baking soda solution help wth this too??

Thank you again for all your help and solutions..x

For baking soda did very little for blackheads, it makes skin very smooth, but also increases sensitivity and I don't also think the alkaline pH and harsh particles are any good for skin, but that just mu opinion. Salacylic acid/BHA is the best thing to keep blackheads under control, imo, like Paula's Choice BHA products. I like to use 5% salicylic acid a few times a week. This one: http://www.beautyscientific.com/5saacse.html

You're absolutely right ray. I tried the baking soda and milk method and left my skin quite sore and dry.

I agree that salicylic acid is the best for greasy skin as it "cuts" through the grease.

Menders, the link that I posted explains all about the OCm, you just need to scroll up and read.

I would also suggest running the clarisonic on your face over an oil, like jojoba. For example wash your face with a very gentle PH balanced cleanser, then massage a couple of drops of oil on your face, then go over it with the clarisonic, focus on your problem areas, but don't press too hard.

Then you put your Salicylic acid on and that should really do the trick.

This cleanser is AMAZING, can't say enough good things about it. Similar to the OCM, except that the oils have an emulsifier to help them rinse off better. Purified Skincare - High Performance Sensitive Skin Care Treatments - OCM - Oil Cleansing Method - Cleansing Oils w/ emulsifiers

Beauty, I see the emulsifiers are lecithin and Polysorbate 80. Have you ever added these to a DIY recipe, or is buying this product easier? I have to say, it looks nice! I like that you can choose your carrier oil.

for blackheads.... do u use the clarisonic? if so this should help the blackheads on your nose. if you don't have a clarisonic you cam actually use your electric toothbrush. just change the head and use for a few seconds with a cleanser.

i prefer manual exfoliation/manipulation for blackheads... sometimes topical acids and such do not get rid of blackheads.

another nifty small gadget for $4 at sephora is the pore cleanser. its a small hand held soft rubber scrubby...and it is AMAZING! its actually, very gentle, removes blackheads. i believe it only comes in pink- sorry! but the little sucker works wonders... you'd be quite surprised.

good luck!

Does anyone have any other ideas on large pores and potential blackheads on nose? (im not sure it is these tbh but any advice grateful)

I did try a sample of Paula's Choice for a few days, prob not long enough i know, but nothing happened?

Maybe I should get a full bottle of this and bite the bullet?

Is there such a solution out there that would reduce pores on nose, instead of me trying all the 'blackhead' removers? This maybe a better choice as after using exfoliating scrubs on nose/face and pore strips, nothing seems to be coming off, thinking that maybe these aren't BH's but its the impression of open pores and the 'pitted nose' look that is my problem

Anyone recommend anything for this?

Thanks x

I have been using the Paula's Choice 2% BHA to try and clean and "close up" my nose pores and hopefully stop the small black hairs growing from the top of my nose?!?

I do use an exfoliant to scrub my nose, which does clean it (and it ALWAYS feels smooth) even though it looks like a strawberry a little!

I am a little worried that trying to efoliate that my nose does go red and seems red the next day? Will this cause Rosacea in the long run?

Any other natural tips to close or get rid of the nose pores and the redness?

Thank you in advance.

I have the same problem, except before i started an aggressive skin care regimen the little tiny "hairs" were black, now they are white. In fact, they look like tiny hairs, but its just tiny strips of oil being pushed out. I tried the OCM and it attempts to pull them out but still a little stubborn so i actually took a fine plucker and pulled it out and applied retin-a. Unfortunately, you will always have them, just have to maintain your skin regimen :/

No what i do is I use one of those exfoliating 'gloves' which are brilliant!

I sit in a hot bath and use this glove to exfoliate my face - then i use a deep cleansing solution to rub into my pores, and with the exfoliant this can sometimes be a bit raw, and slightly red..

When I get out of the bath and dry off then I apply Paula's choice 2% BHA at then end when drying

Im not sure its working? but would love any tips of alternatives to shrink my pores and clean out blackheads?

#24 ·
IMHO Sounds to me like you might be irritating the nose, the irritation will lead to more oil production. What helped me get rid of blackheads was using an oil cleanser. I exfoliate my face while I still have the oil on. Gently massage your face with Jojoba or Watermelon oil, then while the oil is still on your face exfoliate with your gloves, it will works wonders on your pores, I promise!

Thanks i'll give it a try

Thing is though even though my pores get clean using all this stuff and exfoliating, my nose pores still look permanently there!!

Is there anyway to reduce these to look like a clean smooth nose?

Its been literally years of me having a pitted looking nose now, and whatever product I try its always the same!

Is this permanent?!!

I have the same issue and am looking for answers. To make this clear for everyone, we are NOT talking about blackheads. We know what blackheads are and am willing to bet if you have large pores that have a tendency to produce the short thick black hairs, you have experienced a blackhead, probably many, and can tell the difference. This is completely different. It is a short thick black hair protruding from a pore, not a clogged pore like a blackhead. I've noticed if I manually pop or clear a clogged pore, the hair comes out of the same pore the next day. I have been plucking the hairs and I don't imagine there is anyway to prevent them since we must have hair folicles on our noses. I'm finallly getting my skin back under control and the pores on my nose that are large, often clogged, and sometimes with these hairs (that I pluck when I see them), are the problem that no matter how good my skin is doing, never seems to go away.

Right now, the only products I am using on my skin are...
1. PURPOSE Gentle cleanser
2. Acanya Gel - Clindamycin -1.2% & Benz Perox. - 2.5%(prescription
3. Aveeno Positive Radiant Moisture or Clinique Mens Oil Free Moisture Gel (both oil free/non-comodegenic)
4. I also occasionally use Clinique 2.5 Mens Toner after shaving
5. Oral Antibiotic - Minocycline

So, I don't think any of the products I am using are causing (or helping) the nose pore issue, especially considering its always been a problem no matter what products I've been using (and I think I've tried every single one thats ever been produced). I've never had serious acne just mild and on a rare occasion moderate.

I switched to this regimen about a month ago when I saw a dermatologist for the first time in years after my skin seemed to be breaking out more and worse (I'm 24). It got even worse at first but now is almost all healed up and overall seems to be looking healthier and pores less clogged than ever before (Except the NOSE!)

Any suggestions would be awesome, thanks!
