Hi everyone. I just wanted to know whether anyone has tried the dual yellow laser for their melasma? Mine has come back worse & I'm getting pretty desperate & demoralised, it's just SO depressing & it makes you feel like it's ruining your life. Reports I've read so far seem pretty favourable but I wanted to know whether there are any actual experiences of this since lasers have been always a no no before...this seems to work iin a totally different way, though I haven't ha a chance to read so much on it yet.
Thanks for any help on this :)

Hi AFB1 I havent tried the dual yellow laser but i too am curious as ive read good reports also. Its relatively new so im not sure many people will have tried it yet, may have to wait a while to hear reviews on it. Have you tried anything else for your melasma? There are some ladies getting good results with tranexamic acid, i had a very bad reaction to it so had to stop but it may be an option for you. I know what you mean by this condition being so depressing, it does get you down. I hate being stuck under a big hat or parasol all the time, not sure i will ever get used to it! Youre in the right place with us all as we understand how it feels living with this condition. One day im sure we will find something that works for each of us x

Hi AFB1,

Let me share my experience in taking Dual Laser Treatment though I am going to share a very brief note which is based on the true experiences of one of my very intimate friends who I was with throughout the entire procedure.

Initially, I was afraid the procedure was critical and highly technical with lots of unknown techniques. Soon, I discovered that the procedure is not that difficult if you have some interests in this technological hype.

Just when the procedure came to an end, I could not wait to get informed of how my friend was feeling. She just told me that it did not hurt her much. Even, the procedure was minimally invasive. So, we waited for a few weeks to see if there is any side effect. To say the truth, my friend became happier than ever since she started feeling free of melasma which was causing her untold sufferings for years. Also, what you need to do is you must consult with your physician to know if your skin condition really needs such laser treatment. So, you may go forward when you think you should.

Cheers,
Nicola

Hi NikkiD, I've tried quite a few things. NHS was absolutely DIRE, so have been going private which has been a little better.....best results with that have been azelaic & retin a in combo but then retin a was discontinued :-( I was SO upset. The retin a really DID improve my upper lip but not melasma elsewhere on my face, because it actually peeled in the lip area & not elsewhere. I have just bought a type of retin a off the internet & am using this again as I've just been on hoiday & guess what? melasma is worse despite every precaution....so demoralising. I will defo look into the tranexamic acid. I have inquired about the yellow laser, awaiting a reply but it does sound positive.

Good luck AFB1 with trying. Yes, NHS were dire for me too. Have you tried Obaji? I went privately and Obaji uses a combo of hydroquinone and retin a and it cleared my melasma until i discontinued it. The melasma did come back but a lot lighter and i still use the retin a as i suffer also with acne. But you can go onto maintenance with the Obaji system which means just using it less often to maintain your results.

Hi Tiny, no, not found many opinions on dual yellow, though the limited ones I have found have all been very positive. Recently I've been taking tranexamic acid for melasma & well, the results have been dumfoundingly superb! I just acn't believe how well my 15yr old horrific marks have faded, not totally but damn well near so!

Yeah tranexamic has been a bit of a god send. I've been having a bit of a look at papers on it for my redness not really the melasma. The laser I mean. I think I would try it while I was on the tranexamic acid though just to have a back up pigment wise.

Okay, I did some digging. I called the dermatologist in Austin that has the dual Yellow laser to ask about treatment for melasma. The girl at the front desk actually laughed and said that people call from all over asking about traveling in for melasma treatment with the laser, but that it doesn't help with melasma at all. She said she has no clue why they advertise that it does, but it just doesn't work and that it is more for red marks on the face. She told me she wanted to be honest with me, so that I didn't waste my time or money. I was very disappointed to hear this.

miraculous, thank you very much for doing the leg work. I know myself and I am sure many others have wondered how well it works as we melasma sufferers are willing to try just about anything. Have you tried the tranexamic acid pills? I am wanting to order them but still on the fence as my melasma is very mild.

I ordered them, but I don't know if I will take them. I am scared to... especially because it seems there are side effects concerning vision. The studies done on side effects are all in regards to short-term usage for aid in blood clotting, so I who knows how much that risk rises with long-term use....
