i had plantar wart in college...had to have surgery to get it removed. Wasn't bad. But I suppose there's new treatments. But you have to get rid of it or it'll keep grwoing coming back.

 

plantar's are a real bugger - the problem is if you don't completely get the "root" they will come back - i've had good luck with treating them with Dr. Scholl's Freeze Away and Clear Away Wart Removal

 

Liquid nitrogen at the derms or if you can get your hands on some....hurts, needs treatment every two weeks.

Salicyclic acid. 50% solution on up...whatever you can stand...keep at it till it's gone.

 

There's a herbal remedy, Thuya or Thuja. You apply the liquid to the spot at least once a day. It can take a number of months, but it definitely puts a stop to them. Apparently you can take the same active ingredient in tablet form to support the effect. It's also recommended to support the immune system.

 

yup plantar warts are buggers and as LauraB said if you dont get the root they keep coming back. serious cases use surgery. liquid nitrogen has to be applied every 4 or so weeks after first treatment.

there are lots of remedies such as wrapping a banana skin around it. yup i know imagine walking a round with that in your sock. or ACV is another one. usually the best options are to burn/freeze/excise them.

as soon as the body recognises them as a pest it will remove them. currently your immune response to this is similar to a fly on a cows backside! not remotely interested. a burn will trigger teh immune system into action often. but if its a deep one with a distinct blood supply then choppity chop will only do.

 

I was told by a doctor that they prefer avoiding surgery. Apparently they're more likely to come back that way.

 

of course anything requiring anaesthesia is risky so doctors will try and avoid that. with deep plantar warts verrucas etc local may not be an option. so surgery can be unavoidable. depends on teh case and severity of course.
