Hi everyone I'm new on this forum, i've been reading for the past 3 days I've learned a lot thanks !

What I really would like to know is if the pop star Rihanna bleach her skin? She was a light-skinned woman before but lately she has become EXTREMELY LIGHT. Her skin is like Caucasians now! In interviews she says it's the cold weather changing the color of her skin, since she was living in Barbardos before now she stays in the US and always travel to Europe.

So guys what do you think? What kind of stuff she uses? I heard she use VITA PILLS from L'MAJ Bervelly Hills, is it true?

----> thks LighteNLift for your reply !

Yea Rihanna is mixed but by her dad, her little brother is not as light neither her dad. She was not dark before she was light brown. C'mon, now she is almost white, with a pink or yellow skin tone. I wish I could post pictures here to show you what I'm talking about, but I'm a newbie on the forum I'm not allowed.
In Hollywood and the entertaintment industry 98% of black women bleach their skin from Lil Kim, Janet Jackson, Letoya Jackson, Tina Turner, Diana Ross, Trina, Monica, Rihanna, Halle Berry, Letoya Luckett (of Destiny's Child), etc... Look at them before in their career and now, there is a big difference. Most, if not all, of them deny it.

I have no problem people altering their appearence, skin color, etc.. but why lie about it? it's like they keep the secret of what can makes us look good too.

Oh welll.. When I will be allowed to post pictures here, I will put the before and after pictures of Rihanna.

--> Krazycee07 yeah! It's more than HQ she uses. I heard with the rich and famous their use injections. They inject in their veins gluthatione? what? very powerful stuff they inject inside the body. If anybody knows..

I wouldnt say its a secret, I mean if all of us here on this board came from money then we would hire people to create EFFECTIVE bleaching compounds for us and have them stick by our side till we reach our goals. Im sure they used high concentrations of HQ with some very good creams and lotions. Lil Kim doesnt bleach, she uses a lot of chemical peels, thats why sometimes when u see her pictures her skin looks extremely raw and red even with coverup but other times it looks smooth as a baby's skin.

ummmm sorry but she does. Chemical peels are a form of lightening. I use chemical peel exclusively sometimes to lighten. She is an obviously bleacher to me, your skin will only lighten a certain extent with peels.

Rihanna is lighter b/c she can go to a skin specialist that yes will set her up with awesome peels which will make your skin lighter as well as vit c and hydro which not only lightens but hydro makes my skin look overall fantastic.

But just changing my skincare regimen a few years back I got a bit lighter and thats w/o any lightening products, just aha/bha products and vitamin c

i googled, her dad he's irish and blk, so she's a quater irish, never knew that, but i doubt she taking glutathione injections, that stuff doesnt even work, i heard somewhere she was taking a high dosage of hq to lighten and then 4% for maintenace! the only ppl i agree on ur list of ppl who lighten is lil kim, letoya jackson, diana ross and rihanna, ever1 else has always been that color!!

I dont think Rihanna being mixed really matters more than the fact that her skin drastically changed.. One of my best friend is mixed black and asian and she is brown skinned while ive seen others who are very pale.People who are mixed outside of black and white can very from medium to even dark. I do think she used something to get lighter but as some of you mentioned we may never know.. I would even guess it wasnt HQ since most celebs are constantly traveling and in the sun.. it may very well be internal

the last picture i saw of Rihanna, she is BLOND now! so she officially looks like a Caucasian female. i too believe celebs use internal stuff 'cos it's perfect, flawless and drastic. but LightNLift thanks for your insight as always.

blackgirl ur buggin rihanna will never look like a white woman, she doesnt have white facial features, she jus looks like a really light skin blk chic to me. and what else is it she's using if not hq? im sorry cant think of anything else that can lighten that much ive tried glutathione and im sry that stuff dnt work, yall act like she cant bring bleaching cream with her when she travels, and im sure she lathers up the sun screen when she goes out in the sun, plus aint like she lighten over night , she have been bleaching for years!

Although Rhianna is naturally light-skinned and from the islands, her tan is only going to naturally lighten to an extent...the rest is done by skin lighteners compounded for her, as she is far lighter than before and even more lighter than her baby photo and a few of my friends who are lightskin still like to lighten their skin to be even lighter.

It looks to me like the work of HQ/RA. As for 'taking internal stuff' if you can find substantiated evidence of any internal substances scientifically tested & proven to lighten skin significantly, please post a link. I've been unable to unearth that info & I sift through peer reviewed trade journals.

Ondine, to have an even, overall lightening, and supple looking skin like that do you HAVE to use Retin-A? Can you post the link of a thread where it's mentioned in depth if you are tired to repeat yourself..
I've heard the rich and famous use injections to look perfect. I have no idea what they could inject inside that's why I came here to ask.

#15 ·
blackgirl, you wont have to use REtin-A to have even supple looking skin if you cant tolerate RA, but if you can then that would be great. If you dont want to use retin-A, i recommend use something like Glycolic Acid Cream or Lactic Acid Cream or use some scrubs to exfoliate away the dead skin cells, thereby, letting the HQ 4% penetrate more into the skin and give greater eventone results.

So far, other than hear-say & ad-copy regarding injectable or supplement-form lightening agents. Google scholar has nothing in terms of legitimate research backing these formulations. As to celebs using them to 'look perfect', many of them don't, in person. Their photos are the result of many people's work from make-up (air brushed foundation) to hairdressing & lighting. By the time it hits a magazine, it is virtually a work of fiction.

I actually don't believe that she lightened her skin at all. She may have had amazing derms, tons of "celebrity" skin care that would make her naturally flawless complexion even better. She did not lighten that much from when I first saw her. In fact in some recent pictures she looks her normal brown tone. These are paparzzi pics (except the first) and with no special lighting or photoshopping she looks the way she should:

Rihanna as a child: (In Barbados....that is an extremely light and uncommon skin tone)
Image

Rihanna just as she started off: (Looks a bit darker in my opinion, more of a red undertone)
Image

Rihanna Now: (Just 5 days ago, lightened a bit but still definitely not WHITE)
Image

Her explanation for getting lighter is true I believe since the only photos where she appears extremely light are those I see of her in magazines or in her music videos. I don't deny that many celebs do it, but rihanna in my opinion doesnt.
The reason for my detailed reply on this is that we can't always look to celebs for comparisons on how we should lighten our skin, or for most things in fact. They live a different life and more often than not, image is their greatest asset. Most of us in this forum cannot afford amazing derms or we are more or less confined to an area where the sun shines 13 hours a day (story of my life). With that in mind lightening skin in magazines/ music vids etc. is just a way for them to appeal to wider audience. For e.g. Rihanna is one of those artists that have fans across racial boundaries. I for one don't really listen to her music, but I support her cuz well...she represents the Caribbean

But alas, we should focus more on how WE can achieve what they achieve in a "realistic" world. hmm....never really realised how hot rihanna was lol :p

Could be just the result of tans coming on & wearing off....I did see some dark photos of her too but cameras can be dodgy.

As for 'having to use RA' LNL is correct: you do not have to use it. When I began, I was using these AHA peeling pads from Avon & along with the HQ, they were working well. I switched to RA due to cost effectiveness: Avon's pads were approx. $35-40 for 30. YIKES! The RA is so effective that it is almost hard to describe. It really did a # on my skin & my skin was smooth & even toned to begin with (just too dark for my features).

Nothing is as effective as RA. A scrub, AHA pads etc do exfoliate nicely, but RA is absorbed deep into the skin where it stimulates increased collagen production: getting rid of fine lines, tightening & thickening skin. No superficial scrubs can do that. When using RA, you must be very gentle with scrubs or other abrasives (cloths). The RA causes flaking & it must not be overy picked at but allowed to turn over on its own. Much of it'll roll off in a hot steamy shower.

On nights that I use RETIN/HQ do u suggest long sleeves? I ask that because I always notice lot of dead skin rolling off from areas that were covered the next morning. And this is when I shower before I go to bed*

there is a big difference look at the pictures!!

for the poster who told me pretty much to get a life bc I should not compare myself to 'celebrities' well yes. that's why they are here for, 24/7 on TV in our faces, they make the trends. They are role models. I want to have a skin as perfect as Rihanna if I can within my means, I however don't want to look as white. just to say, consciously or not 'celebrities' influence us more than you are aware of.

i have recently had some old pics resurface of me in highschool where i was a LOT lighter.. naturally. I think once i got older and started traveling and getting out more with no protection some of the pigment just never faded... and i COMPLETELY understand about your fam..mine is the same way.. too bad my lighter skin cousins d(on my black and on my hispanic side) didn't get my good features however some would still prefer them on skin alone..

Another one I'm wondering about is the singer LATOYA LUCKETT of Destiny's Child.

Look at her complexion before, she is on top-left.

Look at her now

I'm not judging these ladies, i like them both for their music. i just want to know their secret.

I don't think we should be so quick to assume someone has bleached their skin. I tan very very easy, but in the winter when my tan fades I am ghost white! Not to mention with the addition of lighting (and the red carpet has a TON of cameras) or makeup, people can look different complexions.

I'm not saying they don't bleach, I have no idea, but lighting and makeup can make a big difference.

#32 ·
i'm not judging anyone or assuming anything.. well I'm just wondering, because it would be neat if they could share their beauty secrets, no matter how expensive it is, maybe we can do it. their change is so drastic, often quick so you can't help to wonder..

LightenNLift, Rihanna is defitenely looking different nowadays, not only her hairstyle but her clothings and of course her skin. it's nice to be light but too much is too much depending on your race and features.

To be honest, rihanna looks MUCH MUCH better with the tan skin, the light pale skin looks like shes anemic and has some kind of illness, and she blends into the background too, whereas in the pictures that she is tan, she stands out b/c she has those bold features.
